Howell Organic Community Gardens

Nationwide movement which encourages farmers and gardeners to plant one extra row and donate what's grown to those in need. HOCG proudly allocates its perimeter plots in addition to six 4x20 plots to grow produce for PAR! Members volunteer in planting, maintaining, harvesting, and delivering fresh produce to our neighbors in Howell.

Spearheaded by two of HOCG's outstanding members who continuously learn and share their know-how, providing regular updates and tips for composting in the HOCG as well as gardening at home. The composting initiative was started in 2019 and has been a continued success!

Started in early 2021, this is a Master Gardener-led initiative in its early development currently offered to HOCG members. We are working and hoping to offer workshops to the public.

Monarch Waystations are places that provide the monarch butterflies and other pollinators a safe haven to support their reproduction and migration. The HOCG has a monarch butterfly waystation certified by the Monarch Waystation Program. Members plant and maintain the plants that provide shelter for larvae and provide food for adult butterflies.

The HOCG encourages discovery of new methods and techniques in gardening. We have a dedicated plot for learning more about what we grow and how to grow them. We also have groups dedicated to gardening herbs, garden maintenance, grant writing, etc.

HOCG is fortunate to be host to an apiary. With a dedicated father-daughter team who own and maintain the apiary, the HOCG enjoys the abundance of bees for our garden, and sweet, fragrant honey.
